Mathematics is a subject that many don’t love. Many have been brought up knowing it is a hard subject that needs a lot of struggle to excel in. Some have been told by senior students about topics in the syllabus that they think are hard hence putting fear in the junior ones. Some people don’t love math because the teachers who teach that subject have been presented as harsh and strict to their students. Due to the many misconceptions that have been presented to people solutions have to be made so that students can see math as an awesome subject that they can enjoy and apply in their daily living. Below are the things that can be applied in schools such as Spirit of Math to make Mathematics a beautiful subject for the students.

The teachers should make their lessons interesting to motivate their students. A spirit of math is birthed in a student when they attend a lesson they enjoy, a lesson they feel part of. This will give the students the confidence to participate in the class by answering questions. Even though some will not always have the correct answers, they will respond in the questions in the way they know how to and this will allow the teacher to know the areas they need help on mostly. Some students will get a safe environment to ask questions and request for the teacher to repeat something they have not understood because they have been introduced to a free environment where they can easily relate to their teacher. Such an environment will help improve the student’s performance hence improving the class mean.  See page for more info.

Math programs for kids should be introduced so that kids can learn to enjoy doing mathematics from a young age. This will help do away with the misconceptions that are have been expressed about math at a young age hence enabling the kid not to form a hate attitude towards the subject. These math programs should be interactive where the kids can even play games that bring out a math concept. This will stick with them because it is something, they participated in. Also, the kids should learn to answer questions with boldness so that they cannot live doubting their answers. This will help build confidence to respond to questions and ask in their future academic stages.

The math lessons should introduce the practical part of the subject. Some students keep on questioning where they will apply the knowledge they gain in the real world. The teacher should be able to clearly outline application areas to give the student a sense of purpose.
